The Gracie Combatives® and Gracie Bullyproof® programs are now offered at the Virginia Dojo! It is a perfect compliment to our shidokan karate, which utilizes the same concepts from standing. Classes are taught by Zac Olson, who is a Gracie University Certified Instructor.

Women's Self-Defense Karate

Our women's self-defense karate program follows the same curriculum as our adult shidokan karate program, but classes are focused on techniques that are particularly applicable for women's self-defense.

These classes provide a safe and welcoming environment for women to start their karate journey,  to learn to defend themselves, and to build confidence inside and outside the dojo.

Classes are taught by Senpai Denise Coursey, 3rd degree black belt in shidokan karate.  Contact Denise at mtvernonkarate@gmail.com for more information or visit mountvernonkarate.com for additional class times and information.

Fearless Girl & Mother-Daughter Self Defense

Our Fearless Girl & Mother-Daughter Self-Defense program (ages 12 and up) was designed for tween and teen girls to help them build the confidence and skills they need to stand up for themselves as they enter middle school and high-school. Teens can attend on their own or with their mothers!

We show girls that they are strong and powerful, by teaching practical self-defense based on physics, anatomy,  physiology, and psychology. So it's effective no matter your size or your opponent's size. Best of all, we make learning self-defense fun.

Classes are taught by Senpai Denise Coursey, 3rd degree black belt in shidokan karate.  Contact Denise at mtvernonkarate@gmail.com for more information or visit mountvernonkarate.com for additional class times and information.

Safe Practice During Covid

Health and safety is our top priority. As such, all  students and staff are required to provide proof of vaccination if they wish to participate in indoor, in-person classes. Masks are required and must completely cover your mouth and nose and fit snugly around your face.

Our dojo has a UV air filtration system in use all at times. The space is cleaned after each session, and virus-killing UV lights are used between sessions.

We also offer Zoom for students who can't participate in person.
